Vinny Eden Ortega is a New York City based theatre director, writer, and artistic director originally from Clearwater, Florida.
Ortega adapts existing narratives and creates original work based off a range of materials including text, film, poetry, and visual art. In mixing performance, multimedia, music, and post-modern visual aesthetics, Ortega creates an unconventional theatrical experience that explores volatile human relationships in poetic, sensual, and intoxicated conditions.
His direction has been seen at The Wild Project, The Exploriment Festival (Bangkok, Thailand), The Secret Theatre, Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, Theatre Row, St Paul’s Theatre, WOW Cafe Theatre, and Pace University.
As a playwright Ortega’s play HOPELESS premiered at Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, his one-act More Than Just Skin presented at Poetic License Festival, and his play Phenomenal Things received a 2018 Laboratorium Residency.
Ortega co-founded The Dare Tactic, as the current Artistic Director he has produced over 14 full productions/developmental workshops and directed the company’s arts outreach programs. In addition to his work with The Dare Tactic; Ortega has served as the Associate Artistic Director of Planet Connections Theatre Festivity and it’s annual Playwrights For a Cause Benefit. He is currently an ensemble member of Co-Op Theatre East and a former Artistic Assistant at The Drama League of New York.
